Located on the north shore of Lake Renwick, Icelandic State Park offers visitors not only a wide array of recreational opportunities, but also glimpses of North Dakota's homesteading heritage and its natural beauty.
Boating, swimming and fishing for northern pike and other game fish are popular activities. Picnic areas enable visitors to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade of old oak trees, while the campgrounds offer full amenities, including electrical hookups, modern comfort stations with showers and sewage dump station. Three sleeping cabins are also available from mid-May through the end of September.
Within the park are the Pioneer Heritage Center and restored historic buildings. Also found here is the Gunlogson Homestead and Nature Preserve. This early homestead preserves the state's pioneer spirit, while the 200-acre natural wooded area along the Tongue River is a sanctuary for plants, birds and wildlife.

Most people in the surrounding area have memories of the City Park Bandstand. Chuck Lewis is 92 years old and has many fond memories of his band playing in the par k and kids playing on the stage and around it.
Last year the Park Board was looking into the structure and trying to determine if it was still safe and usable. The roof has issues with lack of support, warping, and leakage. The floor does not have enough support, it is rotting and falling away from the steps. Just painting it was not an option. But when it was discussed to remove it from the park there was a bit of an uproar. People did not want to see it tore down as several talked of their childhood memories of the park and the bandstand.
The Park Board decide to Save the Bandstand and renovate the structure to look like the new bathroom/kitchen facility and also the picnic structure. The roof will have acoustic tiles and the green tin to match the other buildings. Siding will go on the outside, risers will replace the steps, and an ADA compliant ramp will be built on 2 sides of the bandstand. Low maintance and function are the key elements. The floor will be re-done and able to hold a band or backdrops for plays. New electrical outlets will be installed to handle musical equipment. In the past Music*Art in the Park had many struggles with blowing fuses and such. The new structure will have places for speakers and upper outlets for lighting.
We feel it will be the perfect place for concerts, plays, Music*Art in the Park, Memorial Day Service, and the Car Show.
We have a beautiful City Park and the usage of the park has increased tremendously. The picnic shelter along was booked every weekend last year! With the new bathroom/kitchen facility the park has become a favorite spot for lunch time as well. The Korn Krib will be open more days and longer hours this summer.
Anything that you are able to donate to Save the Bandstand will be greatly appreciated!
